Several of the volume leaders trading on the NYSE on Thursday were companies with share prices below the 10.00 level including Citigroup (C), Sprint Nextel Corporation (S), Qwest Communications (Q), Alcatel Lucent (ALU), and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Citigroup Inc. (C) continued its traded as the most heavily traded stock on the NYSE on Monday as volume hit 392,057,842, an impressive figure but still below its trading volume average of 560,880,000. On the day shares were up 1.66% and closed at 4.90, not far off from its 52-week high of 5.15. The company, which provides consumers, corporations, governments, and institutions with a range of financial products and services, including consumer banking, credit cards, corporate and investment banking, securities brokerage, and wealth management, is still above their 50-day moving average of 4.74 and 200-day moving average of 4.20.
Sprint Nextel Corporation (S) shares stayed even on Monday but the company saw above average trading volume as they closed at 4.40 on 53,778,939 shares traded. Sprint continues to catch the attention of investors as they are preparing to roll out their new phone that rolls out into a tablet. Sprint, which offers wireless and wireline communications products and services to consumers, businesses, and government users in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S, remains above their 50-day moving average of 4.29 but fell behind their 200-day moving average of 4.39.
Qwest Communications (Q) surpassed their average trading volume on Monday, closing the day at 26,985,623, more than 3 million shares higher than average. The company, which provides data, Internet, video, and voice services in the United States and internationally, saw a 1.13% increase in share price as they closed at 7.27. Despite the positive day shares remain below the 50-day moving average of 7.31 but are ahead of the 200-day moving average of 6.30.
Alcatel Lucent (ALU) saw trading volume hit 18,881,706 on Monday, nearly 2 million more trades than their average as shares pushed forward 1.17% to close at 3.46. ALU, which offers products, solutions, and transformation services that enable service providers, enterprises, governments, and strategic industries to deliver voice, data, and video communication services to end-users worldwide, are still comfortably ahead of the 50-day moving average of 3.08 and 200-day moving average of 2.96.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) saw thir share price drop slightly on Monday, dipping 0.83% to close at 8.33 with volume settling at 18,577,468, more than 5 million shares lower than their trading volume average. Shares in AMD, which provides processing solutions for the computing and graphics markets in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia, managed to remain above the company’s 50-day moving average of 8.07 as well as their 200-day moving average of 7.64.
