Capital Goods stocks followed the trend of every other sector on Tuesday, falling 0.28% yet there were a few companies that managed to build solid gains, most impressive among those companies was Broadwind Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: BWEN) which jumped 11.7% on the day to close at 1.91. The jump came following yesterday’s announcement that Danish wind power bellwether Vestas was moving ahead with an order for 90 turbines at a Wisconsin wind power project, pushing shares past the 50-day moving average of 1.86 but it still trails the 200-day moving average of 2.90.
SIFCO Industries, Inc. (AMEX: SIF), which engages in the production and sale of various metalworking processes, services, and products, saw shares climb 7.43% on Tuesday to close at 15.47. Shares hit a high of 15.50, a six-month high for the company, and kept them well above the 50-day moving average of 12.86 and 200-day moving average of 12.42.
WSI Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSCI), which engages in precision contract metal machining business in the United States and offers metal components in medium to high volumes requiring tolerances in accordance with customer specifications, saw a modest gain of 6.86% on Tuesday to close at 5.45. Earlier this month WSCI set a 52-week high of 7.66 but shares have fallen dramatically since. With the positive day shares moved past the 50-day moving average of 5.24 and they remain above the 200-day moving average of 3.24.
With more than 3x their average trading volume taking place on Tuesday shares in Chart Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: GTLS) pushed forward 6.82% to close at 31.63. Shares in the company, which manufactures and supplies engineered equipment used in the production, storage, and end-use of hydrocarbon and industrial gases in the United States and internationally, climbed as high as 31.95 to set a new 52-week high and they remain well above the 50-day moving average of 23.12 and 200-day moving average of 19.77.
Tecumseh Products Company (NASDAQ: TECUB) saw trading volume that was more than 25x its average on Tuesday as shares climbed 6.09% to close at 13.58. TECUB, which sells hermetically sealed compressors including air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, as well as condensing units, heat pumps, and refrigeration systems, closed at a six-month high and shares remain above the 50-day moving average of 11.96 and 200-day moving average of 12.08.
